Software Developer PhD Interview Experience - United States

Process

I submitted my resume online through Epic's job portal. The recruiter contacted me within 4 business days and set up a phone interview for the week after.

The phone interview was a combination of the usual "Why Epic?" questions and some preliminary system design questions.

This was followed by an online test with ProctorU. The test had 4 divisions:

  • Speed test (this is timed; none of the others are timed, however they judge both speed and accuracy)
  • Programming (here they teach you a new language and ask you to give answers to code snippets of that language)
  • Aptitude
  • Coding

Me being a perfectionist, I took the full 4 hours allowed to work on the test.

Questions

The problems were a little twisted versions of the well-known problems on algorithms, recursion, or dynamic programming.
