Pros: You can learn a lot about health care. I enjoy the everyday life doing development using internal tools like EpicStudio and EMC2, which makes code integration much easier.
Cons: The technical [stack] is outdated. I am using VB6 for client development and cache for server-side coding.

Pros: Good place if you want a career in healthcare. That's about the only good thing.
Also a pretty campus and good food. You get to travel as part of work.
This might be a good place for a developer for the first 1-2 years, in the sense that they can get a sense of the general development life cycle. Not really anything great in terms of engineering.
Cons: - No career progression.
- You'll end up doing the same thing after 10 years here.
- No transferable skillset in terms of technology.
- Highly dependent on luck and the TL you get.
- I've had more than 6 TLs over my last 3 years. None of these changes were my fault. Everything was moving around modules and TLs between teams.
- No visibility or feedback on performance. You will be greeted with a bell curve anytime you ask for feedback.
- Many developers leave Epic, and you'll find a quarter of your team gone every year.

Pros: - Brilliant co-workers with a hard-working attitude.
- Sabbatical every 5 years (one-month vacation, airfare & hotel paid for by the company).
- Fun campus (slide, great artwork, moat, 12-foot-tall dragons, fully stocked armory, giant snake, life-sized Cat in the Hat, Gandalf, Spiderman, bust of Yoda in the front lobby).
- Awesome food!
- Great opportunity to build skills outside of development.
Cons: - Work-life balance is tough during deadline pushes.
- There's a never-ending pile of work to do. If you don't pace yourself, you can get burned out.
