Process

I was sent an online assessment and had a phone interview scheduled.

The engineer I talked to was nice and had good things to say about the company.

The online assessment, however, was not a great experience. There were sections regarding basic math questions and some aptitude questions.

The coding portion had three questions, all of which were relatively challenging, around LeetCode medium-hard, all to do with string and array manipulation.

Questions

  • Your security alarm keypad has 9 number buttons (1-9), but one of the buttons may be intermittently faulty. To accommodate this, your alarm will accept an incorrectly entered code that is missing one or more occurrences of the same number as long as all other numbers are correct and in sequence. For example, if the expected code is 18684, the entered codes 164, 1865, 8684, and 18684 are among those that should be accepted. Write a function that will take as parameters the expected security code and the security code that was actually entered. Your function will report whether the user entered security code should be accepted.

  • The number 138 is called "well-ordered" because the digits in the number (1, 3, 8) increase from left to right (1 < 3 < 8). The number 365 is not well-ordered because 6 is larger than 5. You are kR4kR-d00d, an elite anti-hacker. An informant has revealed that an evil hacker ring's password is a well-ordered number; another informant has revealed the number of digits in the password. Write a function which, given the number of digits as a parameter, displays all possible well-ordered numbers with that many digits.
