Software Engineer (Internship) Interview Experience - United States

Process

After applying to the internship, I was asked to take a skills assessment exam. The exam had four sections:

  • An SAT-esque math section
  • A logical reasoning section
  • A technical section where you are given information on a made-up programming language and have to answer questions regarding its implementation
  • A LeetCode-like coding section

I just completed the exam the other day so I haven't heard back yet, but the assessment was pretty stressful. I'm not sure if the effort will have been worth it or not, especially since apparently you don't get feedback on your results.

Questions

Given a Boolean 2D array representing a board with Red pieces vs. Black pieces, determine the 'winner' of the game based on the pieces on the board. Three pieces in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally equates to 1 point (therefore 4 pieces in a row is 2 points, 5 is 3 points, etc.).
