Typical gimmicky perks like a “quirky” campus and cheap in-house eateries. Decent 401k matching (6% when I was there) and a sabbatical every 5 years. The cost is at least mostly covered, as long as it’s international and, if I recall correctly, somewhere you haven’t been. They comp travel/airfare and give a per diem. I’ve heard this can make income taxes a hassle and higher.
First and foremost, there’s a general lack of respect toward employees. This ranges from small things like all but telling them they can’t share their salary, to expecting a large amount of overtime (60-80 hour work weeks are not uncommon), to trying to make employees come into the office during COVID restrictions on multiple occasions. They only backed down when county health officials called them out (there are news articles about them if you want to fact-check). The blatant disregard for employee safety and health alone is enough to not work here, but here are more reasons from my experience and observations.
Number 7 of Epic’s 10 Commandments: Have standards. Be fair to all. For such a smart company, they don’t know what fair means.
It was a long day of interviews. I enjoyed seeing the campus and eating the food. I like the food a lot and think it is delicious. The food is so tasty; it tastes really good.
1. Personality quiz 2. Phone interview 3. Assessment Test. After the process, they let you know if they are continuing with the hiring process. I made it past a second-round phone interview but did not receive an offer.
One super day at their campus. One case study per job you are looking at (I interviewed for both Project Manager and Quality Assurance). Several discussions with people from each field as well.
