Pros

Some great benefits:

  • Cheap healthcare
  • Great location
  • You're making a difference
  • Beautiful campus
  • Delicious and cheap food
  • Solid pay (especially for the area)

You get constant feedback from your boss on how to improve/what you're doing well, and people are very helpful.

Cons

I got moved around a lot with some great managers, but I still would have liked some stability.

Some roles can be super rough with work/life balance and require a ton of travel. Depending on your manager, you can be expected to work pretty late.

Slow development process. Many teams are still using VERY outdated languages, so skills may not transfer to later jobs.

There is a lot to learn when you join: a long training period where you learn medical terms, code base, language, and healthcare regulations.

Advice to Management

Try not to move people around too much. Lean down the development process and the training.
