Software Development Engineer I Interview Experience - Gurgaon, Haryana

Process

I recently interviewed for the position of SDE-1 at Expedia Gurgaon. The interview process at Expedia is very lengthy. They seem to believe that creating a lengthy recruitment process will elevate them to the status of Google or Apple, which is disingenuous. The interviews were quite easy, and I suspect the engineers at Expedia lack a strong technological background. Some of them even appeared uninterested in conducting the interviews. This was unexpected from a large company like Expedia, where interviewees have experienced interviewers arriving an hour late and conducting interviews for only five minutes.

The process consisted of four face-to-face rounds and two telephonic rounds, AFTER WHICH I WAS SELECTED.

At Expedia, the recruiter expects the candidate to handle all the work and follow-ups.

The recruiters and HR at Expedia are very careless and do not perform any work or follow-ups. It is the candidate's duty to regularly follow up with HR regarding the process; otherwise, they will simply FORGET your application and reject you. They also lack experience in scheduling interviews.

THE RECRUITERS AT EXPEDIA ARE SO UNPROFESSIONAL THAT THEY WILL CONTINUOUSLY OFFER SALARIES LOWER THAN YOUR CURRENT SALARY.

I received an offer for the SDE-1 role, and the recruiter stated he would release the offer letter soon. I neglected to follow up with him for a week. After a week, when I called him for an update, he informed me that he had offered the job to someone else. HE WAS EXPECTING THE CANDIDATE TO FOLLOW UP on the job offer letter. Perhaps he was EXPECTING THE CANDIDATE TO ISSUE THE LETTER AS WELL (SARCASM).

Regardless, the recruiter then offered me another role on a different team and asked me to attend a couple more interviews, which I declined. I was unimpressed with the company's behavior and lack of seriousness in recruiting, and I did not want to waste more time on such a misguided company. THE RECRUITER WASTED MY TWO MONTHS.

My advice to Expedia is: "TO HIRE SMART ENGINEERS, FIRST HIRE SMART RECRUITERS."
