I spoke with an engineer at a career fair at school. The engineer seemed interested, so they invited me to a 30-minute on-campus interview. During the interview, they asked me to describe a project in detail and then requested that I implement in-order tree traversal, both recursively and iteratively. Two days later, someone from their University Recruiting staff reached out and informed me that I was being invited to an all-expenses-paid on-site interview. We selected a date, but about two weeks before the interview, the recruiter contacted me to inform me they were postponing my interview by a week, which was fine.

I cannot discuss the specifics of the on-site interview, as I signed an NDA before it began, which I will honor. The on-site interview consists of four 1-hour interviews. These interviews focus primarily on technical skills, although a basic understanding of Expedia's business model is expected, but not in great detail. The on-site interviews are quite intensive, as there are no breaks in between. You remain in a conference room with a whiteboard, and software engineers enter to conduct the interviews.

The questions primarily focus on data structures and algorithms. You should also have a strong grasp of Java programming constructs. I would describe the on-site interview as surprisingly challenging, even more so than Microsoft's.

I was informed of my rejection three business days after the on-site interview concluded.
