Great development practices.
Teams are well-sized.
Technology keeps up and is comparatively modern.
People are open and friendly, great to work with.
Perks are nice.
Good appreciation and recognition for effort.
Amazing talent in engineering.
Senior Directors and above are out of touch.
Product teams have a hard time keeping up and communicating their desires.
Meetings with more management than doers are a common occurrence.
Promotions are about seniority, not merit.
I think the lower levels of management are fine, but anything Sr. Director and above is bloated and is overdue for restructuring and simplification. Delegate some responsibilities down. Be more open about the processes and more transparent about decisions. And, of course, compensate employees fairly.
I was contacted by a recruiter for Expedia Montreal. The first phase of the interview went well. The questions covered Java core, Hibernate, and Spring. I was told that I passed the first round. They scheduled a 3-hour video interview, but they did
3 rounds: phone, technical, and hiring manager. Emphasis was placed on hiring manager and fit. Come prepared with stories to talk about your experience. Overall, a good interview and very quick.
About my career path, next steps, and technologies I would like to use and what I used before. Why I want to leave and what motivates me more. Also, we discussed relocation.
