Process

Process:

  • 3 technical interviews
    • Team level
    • Group level (technical, more talking and logical questions)
    • R&D VP level (systems)
  • HR interview

Overall, the people I met with were kind, courteous, and seemed great. I was thrown for a loop during the R&D VP level interview, where they focused heavily on a few probability questions. These were more puzzles/straight probability than coding, which I thought was unnecessary.

Questions

Create an array of ints from 1 to n in random order and prove randomness.

Data Structure: Design a word suggestion data structure.

System: Design a URL shortening system (like bitly, or http://www.shadyurl.com/).

Design a data structure that can get an index, set an index, and get the sum of the interval between two indices, all in O(log n) time.

Three people are on the edges of a triangle, and they independently flip a coin for their next direction. What is the probability that they don't have any overlap? What happens if it is four people on a square? Five on a pentagon?

If you have a function rand5(), how can you use it to create a function rand7() which gives a value between [1..7]? rand25()?

Given a list of orderings (A>B, B>C, B>D, D>C, E>C, D>E), how can you return the final ordering?
