Data Insights Engineer Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

The interview process was more streamlined than I have experienced at other companies.

I heard back with a coding assessment about a week after I applied. The assessment was fairly easy and included answering some questions related to two datasets of patient and drug data provided to me. It involved simple querying and descriptive statistics. They said it should take around 2 hours, but I spent closer to 5 on it myself.

I heard back within the week to set up an online video interview with a full-time Data Insights Engineer. The interview was about half behavioral, including an in-depth look at one of my projects, and half live coding. The live coding was about database design and querying.

I came up with answers for all the interviewer's questions but was a little slow on some of them, which is why I think I didn't get the offer.

Overall, it was a decent experience. It seems like a cool company, although I'm not quite sure watching someone write queries under pressure without any Googling is the best way to evaluate if they know what they're doing.
