tl;dr
It took 7 weeks from application to schedule my first interview. I was really excited to be considered for a role at Flatiron, but the process was painfully slow, and the recruiter didn’t respond to any email correspondence. I declined my interview to accept an offer elsewhere.
——-
First contact after applying was a form email from a recruiter, asking me to provide a concise writing sample to a prompt. I had one week to complete, and they would get back to me one week after that (already wasting a minimum of 2 weeks to start).
I heard back and was offered a first-round interview with a VP level. I provided my availability for the next 10 business days (literally offered all-day windows of time, as I’m on parental leave currently). The form email from recruitment even offered to expedite the process in case I was currently interviewing with other firms (I was).
After 3 days of waiting to get my interview date, the same HR rep asked me to provide MORE time, as the days I offered did not fit their team’s schedule. So, I added more all-day availability of the following week (now 12 business days of 9-5 availability) via the provided scheduling link. After all that, the recruiter scheduled an interview time for me that was in my original batch of available times.
I ultimately declined to interview as I accepted an offer with another firm.
The writing prompt was regarding change management.
