Pros

The actual engineering work is fun, which you get to do 20% of the time, usually OT or on the weekend.

Cons
  • D&R role has to do almost everything.
  • Worst role at Ford.
  • Others can get away with 9-3 schedules.
  • Bureaucracy is at an all-time high.
  • No direction from upper management, just hand-waving until the very last minute, leading to long hours and poor quality (see Ford's recent warranty issues which will continue).
  • No respect for engineering from the CEO down.
  • Most D&R roles are being shipped away from the US to Mexico and Brazil (see recent multiple layoffs).
  • Speaking out gets you fired or on the next round of layoffs.
  • Toxic management is tolerated as long as they deliver.
  • Meetings all day with no time to get work done unless it's on the weekend.
  • Overtime pay starts after 10 hours on weekdays; straight time on weekends.
  • Health benefits are okay.
Advice to Management

Management needs to live by what they preach.

Be professional and own up to your actions.
