Pros
  • Good base pay.
  • Manageable work-life balance, but must prioritize it.
  • You get the same days off as UAW, even if you're not UAW.
  • Work is very cyclical. There are times when you're running 10+ hour days, and other times are less than 8.
  • You can move to different teams, even with little experience in the area. This can be blocked in some cases.
Cons
  • Benefits aren't great, mediocre at best.
  • Bonus is uncompetitive to the market and dependent on factors outside your control (bonus is double at GM).
  • Lots of management causes slow decisions, which creates a lot of work in lower tiers.
  • Big hierarchy tree; you won't meet the CEO.
  • Most employees don't feel empowered to make decisions.
  • Work-life balance can be poor, especially with plant positions.
  • Garbage discounts on new vehicles for non-management employees. You'll get $0-$3500 on new vehicles. Supervisors get good lease deals. Other OEMs (GM, Toyota) give that to all employees.
  • Company culture is overly proud to a fault. They won't even let you park close to the entrance at plants if you drive foreign.
Advice to Management

There's too much management, and individuals need to feel more empowered.

Ford is a car engineering firm. Stop firing your hardware engineers for software ones.
