Pros
  • Amazing knowledge transfer, their internal wiki system is amazing.
  • Great people to work with; they are professional.
  • Great technology and opportunity to learn.
  • Great opportunity to experiment with new solutions.
  • Ford's Ottawa offices are great, even the older one.
Cons
  • Return to work policy, even for people who work on a PC 100% and don't need to be in the office.
  • Regular annual layoffs, even when the economy is good, of both contractors and full-timers. No job security.
  • Ford employs a strict corporate no-rehire policy imposed from the top. So even if you get laid off on good terms for reasons outside of your control (Ford's financials), there's no way back.
  • Ford products have been growing increasingly anti-consumer in the past decade. If you are a car person, working on vehicles that are made to be discarded in 10 years will be slowly eating you from inside.
Advice to Management

Perhaps if Ford wasn't laying off thousands of qualified developers every year, Ford wouldn't be struggling to find qualified developers when they do need them.
