Pros

The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is the pay being above average. This advantage will be gone in no time as more and more US companies come to Vancouver and pay $100,000+ for even new grads.

Cons
  1. If you don't speak Mandarin, you are the minority. Some teams conduct meetings and interviews in Mandarin.

  2. If you insist on good practices, you are the minority. You are expected to just get the work done ASAP.

  3. "Let me help you with that" is not a thing.

  4. Micro-management is everywhere.

  5. The tools and infrastructure they use are at least 10 years old. If you want to learn knowledge that is used elsewhere, don't go to Fortinet!

  6. I can do this all day, but I will stop here because I think the things I listed above will be more than enough to stop you :)

Advice to Management

Someone who has been with the company for more than 10 years and did a pretty good job on risky walkarounds and patches in your production environment doesn't qualify them to be a team lead or manager.
