Process

Applied online and six weeks later received an email from a recruiter to set up a phone screen.

After speaking with the recruiter for 30 minutes, a second phone screen was set up for technical.

Passed technical and was invited to their San Ramon campus for afternoon interviews with eight people.

Arrived on time to their office and was greeted by the recruiter, who was polite throughout the day.

After that, things went downhill:

  • Wasted 30 minutes trying to find an interview room. We found a narrow passageway that could have been a janitorial storage room.
  • The dry-erase markers were nearly empty, and the whiteboard was filthy from past interviews.
  • The workers walking past looked stressed out.
  • Spoke with only one Caucasian engineer; everyone else was foreign-born and likely on H1B visas.
  • Managers and directors were all rude and condescending. What did I do wrong?
  • Their tech guy started asking me questions on a project I did only once.
  • Their tech guy never asked me about my 10 years of platform experience.
  • Insinuated I did not know how to code, and I had to correct the employee in my defense.

Overall, a big waste of a great sunny day better spent interviewing a common-sense employer.

What amazes me is I know more about GE business than the interviewers, who only know how to talk.
