Pros

GE is only a handful of big corporations that still has a traditional pension plan with good benefits. It is the only company left from the original 10 NYSE start-up companies. General Electric is one of the more respected and recognized companies in the USA and the world.

Cons

Like most large companies, the cost of health insurance and compensation have brought forth a reduction in the workforce, either by layoffs or early retirement. Newly hired workers do not have the traditional pension plan anymore but are allowed an increase in 401K and matching contributions.

Advice to Management

With the increase in older workers looking for retirement, it would be beneficial to the company if new workers are brought in earlier for training to capture the years of experience and to improve this transition.

One more piece of advice to GE Corporation: it would save the company BIG money if the "Union" workforce is to work a full 40 hours before overtime is paid out. This will eliminate absenteeism and increase productivity.
