Pros
  • Thorough processes ranging from procurement, engineering, to production.
  • Great stepping stone to the top tier of other companies.
  • Occasional work from home.
  • Expected to work overtime (no pay) based on others' mistakes.
  • Erie's lower cost of living is attractive.
  • Business casual attire.
Cons

Too many software systems act as obstacles to getting work done.

Working with the Union. Lack of motivation or interest to solve problems.

Feudal system for career advancement. Your boss would have to be promoted and recommend you for his position. From entry-level engineer to sub-section manager usually takes at least 10 years.

Company events cater to interns/co-ops to entice them to stay at Erie. However, Erie is not an exciting town for any entry levels. New employees require social events and clubs.

Compensation is OK. Health benefits are poor. 401k is OK.

Overseas contractors have more leeway when causing mistakes/problems due to their much lower compensation.

Winter is brutal.

Advice to Management
  • Do not expect quality work or communication from overseas contractors.
  • Systems need simplification.
  • A better pool of employee candidates is available if the location is moved to a big city.
