The company is truly redefining the way that IT companies will work in the future. Work-life balance is incomparable: work at any time, from anywhere in the world you want. The company's values are not just on paper; the teams live by them. The company fosters a truly no-ego culture.
The only thing that becomes a challenge is that working full remote is not for everyone. It requires people and companies to put more intention/energy into "meeting people" in person, e.g., coworking days, off-site events, etc. The company does not pay for private health insurance in all countries, nor does it cover life insurance for employees.
I would suggest the company consider adopting global healthcare and global life insurance for all employees (independent of the country they are living).
Even though some countries offer public healthcare, it's not necessarily free (or in some cases, not having private healthcare has tax implications).
All IT companies I have worked in the past offered both health and life insurance (at least partially paid, e.g., 50/50 employer/employee shared costs).
Pretty straightforward interview, which is on their handbook. Initial screening, then reviewing a merge request. Technical was with the hiring manager, which is a mix of technical and behavioral. Practice more STAR format questions for this stage.
The interview began with an HR round where I was asked about my previous experiences, my motivation for joining GitLab, and an example of a time when I demonstrated creativity in solving a problem.
It wasn’t a great process; lack of coordination. Sets up interviews without knowing the role has been filled or not. The interview was cancelled a few minutes before the actual call.
