Process

I had 7 rounds of interviews conducted through telephone. Each round was with a member of the team, based out of Bangalore, London, and New York. In all the rounds, I faced similar questions:

  • One brain-teaser problem
  • A few questions based on either C or C++ language
  • One algorithm problem

Each interview lasted for a duration of 40-45 minutes. I had an HR round at the end, where I was asked general questions like, "Why do you want to join Goldman?" and "Why do you want to leave your old job?" I told them I needed more stability, as my previous employer was having too many layoffs.

Though the interview process was one of the longest, the interviewers were very nice and conducted the process very maturely. They always took a personal interest in my social and sports activities, my college life, etc.

Questions

Classix 2 eggs problem.

  • You are given 2 eggs.
  • You have access to a 100-storey building.
  • Eggs can be very hard or very fragile, meaning they may break if dropped from the first floor or may not even break if dropped from the 100th floor. Both eggs are identical.
  • You need to figure out the highest floor of a 100-storey building an egg can be dropped without breaking.
  • Now, the question is how many drops you need to make. You are allowed to break 2 eggs in the process.

You are standing in a hallway next to three light switches, all of which are off. Each switch operates a different incandescent light bulb in the room at the end of the hall. You cannot see the lights from where the switches are. Determine which light corresponds to each switch. You may go into the room with the lights only once.

How do you implement a strategy to support multiple types of data in C language, i.e., different data types like int, float, or char, through one interface?
