I work in technology, not the revenue-producing side. Technology really is not a part of the bank; they are like an outsourced division and generally do not get any respect from the revenue side, which is understandable and not different from anywhere else in the industry.
Compensation is vastly lower as well in technology. For example, an associate in Banking makes twice a VP in technology. Again, pretty much in line with the rest of the industry.
I have worked here for a long time, and really, your happiness depends upon your boss. He/she can make your life hell or great. I have worked for all kinds. The good thing is though, that if things are not working out, you can wiggle out and find a better manager to work for.
