GS had a team-oriented culture, which I found very productive and supportive. It enabled me to grow in my field as well as a leader.
Benefits were very good (e.g., unlimited sick leave, long vacations, great health plans).
Very political at more senior levels. Based on what I heard from ex-colleagues who are still in GS, the culture and company has changed quite a bit in the last 2 years. Many very good people left because the company shifted its policy of hiring top talent with extensive experience to hiring mostly people fresh out of university.
Work-life balance was pretty poor, especially in the NYC office. Twelve-hour days were the norm.
