Process

I was contacted by a Google recruiter and got through the initial screen. I then had four technical interviews. I know I passed the coding interview.

I then had three online video screens. One was with someone in Mexico City, in what appeared to be his bedroom. The other two were in an office somewhere.

I am not a web developer, but that was what I was asked about. I told them I had been an infrastructure network engineer. I had absolutely no idea how to put a chat on a webpage.

I had audio quality concerns with the person in Mexico City; I could not hear him at all.

For the behavioral part, I did mention that throughout my career, I was usually the only woman on the team. I think that went right over their heads. I think they interpreted it as me needing special treatment, but no. It's just that when you're the only woman, you tend to get excluded from certain activities, like strip club invites or dinners at Hooters. Maybe it's not like this in Silicon Valley.

I am over 50 and disabled due to a bicycle accident. I don't think I look too disfigured, however, I don't move easily.

As usual, I was given useless and next-to-nothing preparation. At least in school, there are some limits to what you can be tested on. But a chatbox on a webpage? Nothing like that was on my resume.

I figure I was screened out because of my advanced age and my potentially threatening qualities to Google.

I have a condition where my neck spasms, and it looks like I'm clenching my jaw when it's just muscle spasms. Because of that, I've lost teeth, which I don't think is obvious. It's not meth; it's muscle spasms. Really good insurance, like Google offers, would go a long way for a disabled person who was injured in a bicycle accident 13 years ago and has just been struggling for years.

What could have informed the behavioral questions is how I've managed to run my life being seriously disabled. It really isn't easy. In fact, it is quite difficult a lot of the time, with me not being able to do things that undisabled people can do.

I could really use a $200,000 salary.
