I applied online. The process took 4 weeks.
I recently interviewed with Google, and honestly, I expected the interview process to be much more organized given the company's reputation. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. The biggest issue occurred during the fourth interview. The interview schedule was changed multiple times, one interviewer completely forgot about the interview and never showed up, and during another attempt, the interviewer had to end the session midway because they suddenly became seriously unwell. As a result, it took three separate attempts before I was finally able to complete the fourth round.
After completing all of the interviews, I was informed by my recruiter that the feedback from both my third and fourth interviews was very positive. However, I was also told that the process would not move forward because the feedback from my first interview was not considered strong enough. What I found difficult to understand was that, if the first-round feedback had already raised significant concerns, why was I asked to proceed through the remaining interview rounds—including a fourth round that had to be rescheduled multiple times due to circumstances entirely outside of my control? It felt like a considerable amount of time and effort was invested by both sides without a clear purpose.
I completely understand that unforeseen situations can happen, and individual interviewers may occasionally face emergencies. However, the repeated scheduling issues, the lack of coordination throughout the process, and the decision to continue multiple rounds despite ultimately relying on the first-round feedback left me with a very disappointing impression of Google's interview process. It was far below the level of professionalism I had expected from a company of this caliber.
