Well-structured and clear process.
It began with the publication of the position on LinkedIn, to which I applied. Two weeks later, I was contacted by the recruiter.
The initial conversation served to validate points on the resume and explain how the process worked. For this position, and due to the pandemic, in-person interviews ("On-Site") were replaced by sequential remote interviews (via Google Meets). There would be two technical interviews (one focused on "problem solving" and "design system", easier, and another on coding and algorithms, more complex) and the last two focused on leadership.
The process is sequential; one advances to the next stage only after approval in the previous one.
I passed both technical interviews, each scheduled two weeks in advance, as recommended by the recruiter for better preparation. Unfortunately, in the feedback from the second interview, the recruiter informed me that, despite having received good feedback and being considered approved, the vacancy was filled through an internal recruitment. This prevented me from completing the last two interviews.
Despite the disappointment of having passed all stages undertaken, I learned a lot during the process. The conversations with the recruiter and other PTMs (acronym for the position) helped me understand the day-to-day, the challenges, and the particularities of each market.
What stands out and motivated this review is the following: dealing with Google, I put a lot of effort into doing well in each stage. However, it is important to calibrate expectations. Even with good performance and positive feedback, we can be surprised by internal recruitments, as in this case. From what I've researched, being rejected because of an internal candidate is more common than one might imagine.
Otherwise, I await new opportunities to apply again! :)
I agreed to the NDA and cannot disclose the issues.
