I had a phone interview discussing my background. The interviewer stated I was not a good fit for the position he was trying to fill (which wasn't the one I applied for). However, he mentioned I sounded like an excellent candidate for a few other open positions and said he would call me back.
When he did call back, the tone had changed, and there were no longer any openings. It became apparent that he hadn't initially realized I was 50 years old. Upon discovering my age, it seemed they informally do not have any open positions for candidates who are not young.
My background in the field, as well as why I thought I would be a good fit for the position. I didn't think I would be a good fit, since it wasn't the position I applied for. My resume had been passed to him.
