Senior Hardware Test Engineer Interview Experience - Austell, Georgia

Process

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks.

I have friends in Google's software team who praised it as an excellent work place. Unfortunately it's very different in the hardware/data center team. I passed initial screening with the hiring manager, and continued with three more interviews with the engineers for cognitive ability, leadership, role knowledge, and googleyness.

It was very obvious that they structured the interview questions from software's perspective, and lacked real challenging questions for hardware engineers. The 3 interviews were with a QA engineer, a hardware test engineer manager, and a technical lead.

It was weird that all 3 of them claimed they used to be Sr. hardware test engineer or heavily associated with one, but they all moved onto something else now as if the position has extremely high turnover rate that they can't pull anyone on the same team to do the interview. On top of that, the hardware test engineer manager was totally disconnected during interview and he was definitely working on something else.

Ultimately I didn't get the offer, which was fine, but I do want to know what went wrong and if it's still worth to pursue the same career at Google. Unfortunately after 30 mins of discussion with Google's recruiter I didn't get any helpful information and I was asked to keep trying. It's terrible advice that even AI would suggest otherwise because Google keeps track of interview scores, and the scores will stay for at least 4-6 months which will prevent candidates from wasting anymore of their time. It's sad that even AI provides more accurate Google hiring information than Google's own recruiter.

Throughout the interaction with Google's team, they are expecting the candidates/employees to be the best of best and full transparency, but Google's not doing the same for their employees... such double standards. At least on the hardware/data center team.
