Process

Note: I went through this process in late 2021 - early 2022. The situation might have changed since then.

The initial interview process took a few weeks. I first spoke to a recruiter who assessed my basic skills, then went through several rounds of technical interviews. This included a take-home exercise that had clearly not been updated in a very long time. They provided a REST API you were supposed to hit, and all the data in it was seven years old. Furthermore, it didn't actually work due to CORS restrictions, so I had to write my own proxy for it.

Next, there were some live white-boarding sessions, which weren't too terrible. These mostly consisted of general questions and problem-solving skills assessments.

Now for the less positive part: after passing all the interview rounds and receiving a stamp of approval, you are placed in a pool of vetted candidates. You are then supposed to be matched with a team or role. Team leads interview you to check your fit and interest with the role, and then must make an internal argument for why they should hire you.

This is okay in theory, but in practice, it just dragged on and on. From the time I started interviewing with them to the day I finally got an offer (which I turned down to go to a startup), it took eight months.

Questions

This was a web role, so I think there was a question about how to apply rainbow colors to the letters in a string of text on the DOM.
