I was approached by a Google recruiter at the beginning of February 2024.
I had already been interviewed by them in the past, which likely explains why they had my resume.
We had a 15-minute phone call where she explained a little about the position, asked questions about my career, and outlined the selection process:
Before the first phone screen, I had the opportunity to do a mock interview with a Google employee. This session provided insights into working at Google and how the technical interview functions. The mock interview was excellent, exceeding my expectations. The interviewer was very experienced and offered valuable advice on areas to focus my studies for future interviews. We had a productive discussion about a problem, delving into details, and I was able to answer all questions, leaving with a positive impression.
The first technical interview, a few days later, was a stark contrast to the mock session.
I cannot share many specifics about the interview itself, as the platform would flag it as a violation of terms and delete the post.
However, the interviewer was notably arrogant and showed no interest in the interview process. He entered the room, introduced himself, stated he already knew my background from my resume, and immediately presented the problem. He described it concisely and asked me to write the code. Despite my attempts to clarify the problem with questions, he consistently pushed me to start coding, even when the requirements were not fully understood. He also provided initial misinformation about the problem, which I discovered when subsequent questions yielded different answers. Although I eventually solved the problem, I ran out of time to test it. He declared the session over, citing another meeting. I reported this negative interview experience to the recruiter, but she did not respond.
