I recently interned at Google as a Software Engineer. The process to get there was intense but exciting.
The application started with a pre-placement talk, followed by resume-based shortlisting. Students from CSE, EE, and ECE branches with a CPI above 7 were eligible. I was shortlisted along with about 30 other students after an online assessment (OA).
The online assessment included two questions: one medium-level question on trees and a harder one based on the sliding window technique. Both questions tested my understanding of data structures and algorithms. After this, we were notified of our results, and I was thrilled to be among the 30 selected students.
There were two interview rounds, both elimination-based, held online.
This was a 45-minute interview. I was asked a medium-level DSA question related to priority queues, followed by its time and space complexity analysis. I answered all questions successfully.
This round was also 45 minutes. I was given a more challenging DSA problem. I explained the approach but couldn’t fully code the solution due to time constraints.
The interview process was a great learning experience, even though the results took more than a week to be announced. In the end, Google offered the internship to only 3 students. While I wasn’t one of them, I gained valuable insights and experience from the process.
They asked DSA questions from topics: priority queue, tree, and sliding window.
