Pros: The pay and perks were good. Lots of smart people to work with. A good environment. Lots of food. There are free shuttles and free laundry services. People are nice.

Cons: It takes a lot of time to do simple things. I think that it takes a lot of time to do something significant. People are nice, but seem to be very busy with work.

A stimulating summer experience

Software Engineer Intern • Former Employee

Mountain View, California, United States

Pros: Everyone's very bright and hardworking, but everyone knows this already. More important, the Google culture is one of openness. Many docs are publicly visible, so you can learn about other projects in the company, and people enjoy talking about what they're working on.

Cons: This varies significantly by location, but some workspaces are very tightly crammed, with people sitting side-by-side at long tables. This is a distracting and unpleasant work environment. It's like being in an industrial chicken coop. Engineers need quiet!
