A recruiter contacted me via LinkedIn and started the process.

They were responsive and helpful in figuring out the logistics.

I had two phone interviews initially, followed by a full day of interviews at the Google campus.

Everyone I spoke to was cordial and patient as I worked through the solutions.

Questions

Most questions were related to general data structures and graph algorithms.

Pros: Work with great people, an awesome salary, and benefits. The place is chock full of good people. There is a very advanced internal software infrastructure for you to learn about and use. This infrastructure will be more capable in many ways than any place in the world. And Google has world-leader workloads. Everyone says that, but it's true for the big G.

Cons: It's hard to deal with being average, especially if you were a super-achiever in your old job. Most of the not-great people were weeded out at interview time, as well as many other good people.

Pros: Work with great people, an awesome salary, and benefits. The place is chock full of good people. There is a very advanced internal software infrastructure for you to learn about and use. This infrastructure will be more capable in many ways than any place in the world. And Google has world-leader workloads. Everyone says that, but it's true for the big G.

Pros: The internal transfer process is easy and encouraged. If your team isn't working for you, it is possible to find a new one that is a better fit or more interesting. There are fully remote and hybrid work options. The food and other benefits are nice. Work-life balance is good once you find a team that fits your lifestyle and ambitions.

Cons: Now that Google is so big, there is a lot more corporate red tape and friction.
