Process

I received an email from a Google recruiter. I wasn't actively searching for jobs at the time, but I still replied. It turned out to be the worst mistake I've ever made.

The process was smooth initially. They allowed me to skip the phone screen and go directly to an on-site interview. They reimbursed my flight and hotel expenses. The on-site interview felt promising, and I thought I had secured the offer.

However, they distributed my resume, containing all my sensitive personal information, to potentially hundreds of Google employees who may know me personally. Considering I studied at three prestigious universities, it wasn't difficult for them to find many acquaintances within Google. As is common for most people, I have a few adversaries among these hundreds. They began to badmouth me, and consequently, I did not receive an offer.

What upset me the most wasn't the lack of an offer, but rather the violation of my privacy and security. I shared my personal information for the evaluation of my job abilities, not for it to be shared with hundreds of unrelated individuals. I do not want my phone number and address to be public. I do not want to share my personal information with someone who simply attended the same college as me. I do not want my past and current employers to know that I am applying for jobs elsewhere.

I understand that Google loses nothing by sharing my resume widely and soliciting reviews. But do you have any ethical concerns while conducting such practices? Do you realize the damage you have inflicted upon me?

Thank God, I also have many friends at Google. They informed me about the situation; otherwise, I would never have known about their unethical actions.
