Pros: Good pay and nice work-life balance.

Cons: Boring sometimes, and can work long days.

Pros: Smart and friendly colleagues. Great opportunities to get trained to write solid code. Perks are good.

Cons: Peers are more interested in hierarchy and promotion than any mission. Managers come from this culture, and most know no other way. Managers manage too many people to match the expectations of any other company. Consequently, Google lets them off the hook by not assessing the characteristics of a good middle manager. Recruiting processes lead to poor outcomes (team mismatch) that can be difficult to rectify. Don't be fooled by books and articles documenting Google's early years; this is a company in middle age where process trumps everything else!
