Benefits and amenities are unreal. All the clichés about culture and amenities are true. If you work for an OG Googler, chances are you'll be treated (and be expected to behave) as the founder's no-jerk letter from more than 25 years ago. This is a collaborative culture where coaching and feedback can be very productive.
Know your leadership and choose wisely. There are a lot of Microsoft alums coming into leadership who are bringing the toxicity you may have heard about. If you can, seek out OG Googlers to work for, as well as non-Microsoft alums. They may say that they were escaping the toxicity there, but I've seen that they brought a lot of it with them too.
The ones I've run into are not collaborative, but possessive and hold grudges. There is a lot of bias and discrimination in the commercial side of the cloud house. RIFs aren't just to reduce cost, but to silence people. Fair warning.
Toxic/difficult leaders will cost the company more in liability and productivity than simply ignoring them. The culture has shifted towards fear and aggression over the past 2 years. Please don't let that happen.
