It is a good place to be if you are trying to figure out what you want to do next.
Very political, especially if you want to get promoted. The higher you go, the more political your role becomes. We are not solving real problems for the most part. We are making small modifications to the already existing, mature systems that have been built by smart people a long time ago. The goal is to make your work appear more impressive so you can get promoted.
