Specifically, during my internship, the company was dealing with layoffs.
My internship was over the summer, so many people, including management, were away for Christmas/New Years.
If you're having issues with your direct manager, there are several avenues for external support. The intern management team is very good at dealing with any issues that may be popping up. Management is very open and promotes intern experimentation and initiatives, so suggest ideas and ask for more opportunities.
