It is difficult to find a good role in the company.
Most people end up working on things they aren't really interested in, or in roles they wouldn't take or stay in at other companies.
Management quality varies a lot. I've seen some managers who were good at their job and also decent human beings. I've seen some that absolutely didn't deserve their roles, and/or that were very sleazy. Google will basically always consider your manager to be correct in any dispute/disagreement with you, so a bad/sleazy manager can be very bad for your career at G.
