Software Development Engineer Interview Experience

Process

I submitted my resume online on their careers website and got a call from a recruiter within two days. I was asked to schedule a technical phone interview.

It was a typical technical interview, with questions about my resume and projects, and a few algorithmic and data structure questions. I was asked to code the problems in the language of my choice using an online editor tool.

I am a non-native English speaker, and so was the interviewer. I didn't understand her properly and had to ask her to repeat the questions what felt like a "zillion" times. It was truly arduous for both of us. Apart from that, everything went well. She was very nice and even gave hints when I was stuck.

I am waiting for the results of the interview.

Questions

  1. How do you serialize and deserialize a list of strings? Come up with an efficient algorithm and code the solution in the language of your choice.

  2. What is the difference between a String, StringBuilder, and StringBuffer?
