Pros

Individual contributors are typically very friendly, hardworking, and care for each other as well as for customers.

Cons
  • Management is tone-deaf and brutal at times (layoffs, benefits removal advertised as "improvements").

  • No clear vision from the top. A myopic horizon is often preferred by product managers and managers so they can hit their promotion incentives, which are not crafted to encourage risk-taking or long-term projects.

Advice to Management

Delegate decisional power down. Many egregious reorganizations and hollow guidelines (Gusto 2.0? "Use more AI"?) caused much attrition.

Gusto is not contributing to making "work empower a better life," as the motto goes.

CX folks have bad work conditions; bring back the unlimited PTO, allow them to trade shifts, and be more empathetic. Some PE of PEs have been saying they use "terror management" and find the understaffing "thrilling" because it is challenging. I can't imagine the folks under feel very safe.
