Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Bengaluru, Karnataka

Process

2 months of interview duration.

One clearing round, which was machine coding, I scored 850/1000 (selected).

2 technical rounds (1 machine coding and 1 code review).

1 HM round, 1 Operational Management round, 1 Design Collaboration (system design) round, 1 Cultural Fit round.

HM, OM, and Technical all went pretty smooth.

In system design, I wasn't asked system design questions but had a general discussion. It went pretty smooth. The interviewer and I discussed a lot of things and had common passions, so we had a good, long discussion post-interview questions as well. It seemed well.

After the cultural fit round (which was with the Engineering Lead), I was waiting for a call to discuss numbers. There was no reply regarding selection/rejection (prior to that, at one point, I had to remind the HR that I exist).

5 days later, I called HR, and he told me they were not moving forward with me. I tried to inquire about which round it was, as rounds are usually elimination ones. As an experienced dev, you know when an interview doesn't go quite right, which wasn't the case in any round.

I called another HR, and he told me it was the Design Collaboration round, which, in my opinion, went great as it was just a discussion around challenges I have faced and how my current organization works with designs. I answered everything honestly, and the interviewer was pretty chill about things.

I had been eagerly waiting for an acceptance call but ultimately had to call them myself, only to hear something that makes no sense to me at all.

Of course, sometimes you are optimistic about things, and in reality, they aren't great, which could have been the case in my interview. But I am not an optimist when it comes to things like this; I am positive only when things genuinely go great.

It was a really long procedure, but the more painful part about it is that I really wanted to join HashiCorp. Instead, they rejected me after this rigorous testing without a solid reason, which is what I feel like.

I work in React, and they require EmberJS. Maybe they found a better candidate in Ember and wanted to get rid of me, but they knew it since day 1 of the interview. Why engage me in a 2-month-long process?

Questions

Due to non-disclosure, I cannot answer that, but I can give a hint about the HM round, which was pretty generic. Just Google what questions to ask, and you will get them.
