Pros

The brand and global spread.

Multiple business lines:

  • Retail & Wealth Management
  • Private
  • Business
  • Global Banking & Markets

Massive investment in digital.

Shallow reporting structure.

Clear strategy.

Cons

Lower than average employee engagement. Poor HR support. Low-balling on pay. Many admin functions devolved (e.g., HR, Procurement) with managers having to pick up the tasks. Big organization that needs skill navigating and joining up. Business lines could be better joined up digitally.

Advice to Management

Show that you value your employees with better engagement. Be more action-oriented than just listening. Pay people what they are worth rather than just the lowest you can get away with.

Push and continue to push the digital agenda. The pace of change means that the great stuff in train now will constantly need to evolve to keep pace with competitors and disruptors.
