Sliding into Toxicity

Pros

Comp is decent. Existing benefits, like unlimited PTO and remote work, that they haven't killed yet are nice.

Cons

Take everything you heard and read about HubSpot in the past and throw it out. They once had a reputation for being an amazing place to work with lower-end compensation.

They've turned that on its head. They bumped the compensation and decided to actively waste time and effort witch-hunting engineers for low productivity using naive, poorly thought-out metrics that were never communicated as expectations.

Any company focused on success would communicate new expectations, gather feedback, and refine. HubSpot likes to change expectations every quarter, not communicate, and then retroactively punish employees who recently got positive feedback for supporting the efforts they were requested to assist. It gives employees whiplash and has robbed them of all psychological safety.

Advice to Management

Refocus on what will actually move the meter for customers. Stop being toxic to employees and focus on growth.
