Software Developer Interview Experience - Amsterdam, Netherlands

Process

I had a four-step interview process. It was long, but I really enjoyed it. It was an interview for a Java position.

First step was an hour-long Skype interview with one person where I was asked about my background and some basic technical questions, like how does HashMap work or describe Collection types in Java.

Second step involved three applications that you needed to write at home. I cannot say exactly what needed to be done, but they checked how you handled threads, design, and algorithms.

Third step was another technical interview where we talked about the provided solutions from the second step and more questions about Java and programming.

Fourth, the last step, was an on-site interview in their office in Amsterdam. The interview took around 4 hours and had 4 parts: coding, solving algorithms, technical discussion, and an HR interview. I am from Poland, so they provided me with flights and accommodation.

After each step, you got feedback on whether they wanted to proceed with the interview. There was no wasted time for either side.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the offer, but it was a great adventure. I will definitely come back there with more experience and knowledge.
