Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - San Francisco, California

July 1, 2017
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

Approached by a recruiter via email.

Followed by a 15-minute HackerRank challenge.

Then a 45-minute talk with either a lead or manager.

Followed by a take-home web app project to be completed in 4 hours.

After which, you proceed to an onsite interview. The onsite includes a pair programming challenge, 3 to 4 behavioral interviews, and one lunch interview. The process finishes with a conversation with HR/recruiter.

I performed well in all stages, but they never got back to me with a decision. I waited for four weeks, and they had no idea about the hiring manager's decision. It was a waste of time.

Questions

Pub/Sub implementation in HackerRank. Very straightforward.

Build a shopper site with analytics.

Pair programming: Hashmap with time awareness, i.e., a key can store multiple values based on the time it was put. When getting, you can provide no timestamp (to get the last inserted value) or one matching either the timestamp or the closest value to the given timestamp.
