I received an email long ago from the hiring manager regarding a prospective internship, which I declined at that time because I had already accepted an offer from another group. However, I kept the email and recently followed up about a full-time opening with the hiring manager in May 2014. He mentioned that he actually has an opening now and asked me to formally apply online for a given job number.
In June 2014, I received another email for a phone interview, which was scheduled for mid-July 2014. It lasted for an hour and covered topics related to my thesis and my two prior internships at Intel. The interviewer was the hiring manager himself, and he invited me for an all-paid onsite interview the following week.
Day of the interview: Starting at 8 AM, I gave a presentation on my thesis topic that lasted for an hour. Following that, there were six one-on-one interviews, each lasting about an hour (except for a 1.5-hour lunch break during which I was taken out for a group lunch at a restaurant with three members of the group).
The interviewers assessed my behavioral and technical skills. All interviews were conducted in the cafe, in a pretty informal setting. They wanted to understand how I think, my problem-solving skills, and my soft skills.
There were questions about my published papers (one interviewer even brought a paper of mine and asked questions directly from it) and my thoughts on dealing with the datasets they currently have. All the interviewers were very nice and friendly.
I got a very positive vibe from the group, which consists of 7-8 members. They mentioned that another person would be joining the group in August 2014, and if I were hired, I would be their newest member. Two other members had joined last year or the year before and were around the same age group as I am.
Overall, it was a good experience. The day concluded at 4 PM with the last interview with the hiring manager. Within a week, I received an offer from Intel HR.
I can't remember any specific examples. Technical questions depend on how well you know your work and the basics.
All the behavioral questions can be answered if you have worked at a company at some point in your career.
I would say I kinda enjoyed the interviews.
