Software Engineer Advanced • Current Employee
Pros: - Very smart and friendly people who can help grow you professionally.
- Very interesting and difficult engineering problems to solve; can get a bit addictive sometimes.
- Management does care about your professional development and well-being.
- Great downtown location, compensation, and perks (free metropass, etc.).
- Low stress level - rarely have strict deadlines, and you can take time to innovate.
- Lots of autonomy and flexibility in terms of what you work on, where, and when, etc.
- Not a lot of drama or politics.
- Decent dedication to doing right software engineering, despite imperfections.
Cons: - IT infrastructure (computing farm, network storage, etc.) can't keep up with engineering needs; you can't run as many experiments as you want.
- Management is sometimes overworked, meaning less time to care about your progress/development.
- Despite the usually low stress level, you occasionally still need to just focus on getting something done instead of getting it done right.
- Understaffed. It's getting better since Intel acquired us.
- The corporate culture is very good, but probably not as dynamic as newer places like Facebook.
- You can feel distant from the rest of Intel since the acquisition. What the hell are they doing anyway?
- The Toronto Yorkville office could be a bit more colorful!
