Software Engineer • Current Employee
Pros: 1. Worldwide brand recognition. Almost everyone has heard of Intel and what we do.
2. Some awesome benefits, including an 8-week paid sabbatical after every 7 years and profit sharing that does not require 401k participation. Free fruits and drinks.
3. Great work/life balance. Management is supportive of flexible working hours and telecommuting.
4. Process and technology leadership. Our CPUs are the best, bar none.
5. Tremendous company and employee involvement in the communities that it serves.
Cons: 1. The bonus structure needs to be changed for grade 6 and lower employees. We need to emphasize an individual's performance more, rather than a fixed bonus target that is based on a small percentage of an employee's salary.
2. The stock price is stagnant. It's such a big issue that even management is trying to address it.
3. There are too many reorganizations within the company. Reorganizations seem to happen every year, and upper management always claims that it improves some inefficiencies. Better planning and leadership should have been exercised in the first place!
4. There's too much bureaucracy and politics, and too many meetings. We should focus on getting the task done at hand with better cooperation and teamwork among groups, rather than focusing on specific processes and passing the political football.
5. There are too many offices in the suburbs and not enough in the bigger cities (e.g., SF, NYC) that are needed to attract a wider talent pool.
