Pros
  • Great WLB.
  • Work for less than 3 hours every day.
  • Can coast at Intel and focus on side hustle/business.
  • If you belong to one of the diversity groups, hire, or gender, you have a free hand at everything at Intel.
  • Great employee resource groups to build leadership skills while having a full-time job.
  • Multiple opportunities once within Intel. Can change teams easily.
Cons
  • Poor pay scale when compared to other companies.
  • Extremely poor stock grants and refreshers.
  • Poor tech stack, and management has ignored software for way too long.
  • Promotions take 4-6 years from junior to senior and can become stagnant.
  • Managers and middle management are too busy being blockers or creating unnecessary work without solving a problem.
  • Exec management hires and promotes just on the basis of diversity/gender, etc.

ADVICE TO NEW HIRES:

  1. Intel has increased their pay by 7% and increased the CR ratio to 95%.
  2. Intel has started giving stock grants of 2x-3x (e.g., 20k x 3 RSUs).
  3. Use Intel as a stepping stone to progress your career.
Advice to Management
  1. Hire and promote based on merit.
  2. Too many groups are not doing productive work or are coasting at Intel.
  3. Increase total compensation, not just a 7% increase or 2x RSU's.
  4. Half of Intel's employees who leave Intel either go to Apple or Microsoft. Apple's M1 chip is successful because of ex-Intel employees. Microsoft is also poaching employees from Hillsboro for their in-house chips.
  5. Managers at Intel do not have technical knowledge. Either shift them to other people management groups.
  6. Outdated promotions and practices.
  7. Intel doesn't have any more grip in locations in Hillsboro, Chandler, or Austin with remote work and other companies establishing grounds here.
